Day 5 - Week 8 - Good Reading
Many well meaning friends and
acquaintances have sent cards with sentiments both
sublime and ridiculous, all to encourage, humor and
embolden me. It works.
In addition, a few have offered
reading material in the form of books. Several have
suggested chat groups on the internet. A day does
not go by when I do not receive insight into a new
pathway that could bring healing.
Here are four that I am working
on simultaneously.
Long time friend and mentor Dr.
Robert Blaich’s YOUR INNER PHARMACY – Taking Back
Our Wellness has just been published. The subtitle
is revealing: Shift to a healthy mindset and add
years to your life. The cover is of a hand holding
an apple. Symbolically an organic apple represents
health and well being, for an apple a day keeps the
doctor away. Much more to come later about this
book.
Carolyn Reuben, sister of my
good friend Rabbi Steven Carr Reuben wrote
“Cleansing the Body, Mind and Spirit.” On the cover
she offers: Simple, natural ways to detoxify with
fasting, breathing techniques, reflexology,
acupressure, diet, exercise and more. I am going to
read this book because my body is probably a
candidate for a super fund cleanup. De-toxification
is not just for cleaning out the booze after a heavy
weekend of partying, but a life long practice vital
to counter-balancing what we ingest just by walking
around.
Joel Fuhrman, MD wrote Fasting
and Eating for Health. The subtitle is intriguing
to me. “A Medical Doctor’s Program for Conquering
Disease.” The cover is full of information about
the book. It offers: Precise diet and fasting
programs to relieve headache, hypoglycemia,
rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, heart disease, high
blood pressure, diabetes, colitis, psoriasis, lupus
and uterine fibroids. Sounds like his program can
cure whatever ails one. Heck, he does not mention
cancer but this book deserves a good look.
Dr. Steven Pratt and Kathy
Matthews penned a book called SUPERFOODS – Fourteen
Foods That Will Change Your Life. Anytime I read
about someone’s empirical data on food I pay close
attention. I may be off base, but I do not think
so, that diet may be the magic bullet, the key to
unlock the mystery of health. Once again high on
the reading list and over the next few months I hope
to unlock the kernels of wisdom contained within.
Optimum nutrients are now a
necessity with me. If you are clean and healthy
perhaps you can adapt and adopt so as to fortify
your inner eco system so you remain free of the
debilitating diseases so common in our culture
today; especially the big C.
