- Day 2 - Week 25 - Interesting Website to Check Out
Next week Alexandra and I tape our first show since
July. We took a break from Earth Talk Today, in part
because of my cancer and her being on location
shooting a couple of movies, but we in the interim
are constantly searching for interesting guests for
the show. We have focused our attention on the
scientific community this past year and have had
several excellent shows on global warming, ocean
pollution, and alternative energy. This fall our
guests will reflect the diversity of voices
committed to the environment as we will listen to
persons of Mexican, Korean, Japanese, Iranian, and
European backgrounds. Our subject matter will be
diverse as well, but I wanted to tell you about our
first guest and the subject matter because it
pertains to the environment and health issues.
Google The Environmental Working Group and
you will see articles and information that will be
helpful in using our power of discernment to see
which path might work best for us. We all have
choices, and being informed about our choices may be
enhanced by the information compiled by the
Environmental Working Group. I am particularly
interested in learning more about the connection of
environmental factors as they relate to health, and
especially cancer. The director Mr. Bill Walker will
talk about cosmetics, water, food and a host of
areas that should be of interest to all of us.
Today as I sat in my lounge chair and as the drug
was being administered I could not help but notice
that everyone in the room was either reading or
napping. My cubicle mate was a teacher who was
reading as her husband sat at her feet exploring the
internet on his computer. She was inquisitive,
delightful, and a teacher. Her husband was a
professor at USC (Wayne I mentioned your name and
how you pinch hit for me) and our delightful
conversation made the time pass quickly. I found
myself stepping up on the soapbox encouraging her to
balance the treatments, this being her first, with
pre-emptive preventative measures for maximizing the
benefits of chemo therapy. She was diagnosed in
March with lung cancer, and as a lifelong non smoker
was a bit baffled by the disease finding her lungs.
I will probably see her tomorrow and will reference
the Environmental Working Group’s website. In this
day and age of instant information at our
fingertips, any website sharing is greatly
appreciated. The more knowledge we gain, and the
more proactive we become about our health the better
our chances are for beating back the onslaught of
cancer.
Each of us is given a pulpit with a small p on a
regular basis. Interacting with friends and
acquaintances we pass the time with a great deal of
unnecessary words signifying nothing when we could
be sharing our learning’s about life, or our latest
discovery about diet, health, cancer, or any other
subject of consequence. Time is of the essence, the
choice is ours.
