- Day 7 - Week 24 - Round Six – Here She Comes
There is always good news and bad news; at least we
are led to believe that life is a balancing act
between crisis and challenging times and good times
when everything seems to be going our way. I was
called back to the doctor’s office today for a
re-assessment of my situation. I was on auto pilot
as frequent visits have created a well worn track
that I could follow with eyes wide shut. As in every
visit, and perhaps every corner we turn in life we
can discover information that makes us hope filled
and optimistic; today was no exception. Good news: I
am officially in remission Bad News: I have to
undergo round 6 of chemo and therapy before I can
even entertain 10 Rounds with Jose Cuervo.
Why do I need another round when there is no cancer?
Sound familiar? Daughter Jennifer has experienced a
similar scenario. We have both been warned that
cancer is a sneaky little fellow who hides in places
cameras, dyes and discerning physicians can not
discover. In other words, technology has progressed
to an almost certainty about the presence of cancer,
but that not quite sure is what prompts another
round; and in Jen’s case five rounds with radiation,
or maybe six or seven.
This brings us all back to the importance of
prevention. Prevention is essential as we all
proceed; either with or without cancer prevention
strategies are required today.
I will continue with dietary selections based on how
good they are for my body; even though the
temptations are many and the flesh is weak, I will
focus on the cruciferous vegetables, strong colorful
fruits and vegetables, omega 3 foods, and all the
others so essential in strengthening my immune
system. Granted I sinned boldly last Monday night
with my helping of garlic fries at the Dodger game,
but fried and fatty foods are definitely designed to
taste great, fill us up, and compromise our health.
I will continue with exercise and enough sleep. I
will continue with a positive attitude. I will
continue to surround myself with people I care
about. I will continue to trust the western medical
community while exploring and incorporating eastern
thought and practices into my regular regimen.
In short, switching to a healthy lifestyle is a
choice. I will fall short of the mark, but
faithfulness to the principle will guide me in the
days and years ahead. In the meantime, I am still
evaluating the value of the Kreitler Compact as an
on-going vehicle for me and others.
