- Day 2 - Week 24 - Welcome Back, Peter and Katy!
Word has it that our trusty hero and heroine have
returned from their well deserved respite "on the
Cape". I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say,
"welcome HOME", you guys. We hope that your retreat
has done much to heal body and soul and to help you
chart a course for what lies ahead. I'll be looking
forward to having some time with you to explore your
thoughts and good times while you were gone-----and,
I hope, read about those things online. In the
meantime, I hope I have provided your family and
friends with some thoughts and insights about a
variety of subjects that touch my life these
days.........my brother's battle with cancer and his
victory (I hope).......his new relationship that
brings special medicine you can't get in a
pharmacy........my comments on 9/11 and my concern
about the culture of fear that has grown up around
us........about Thomas Moore's formula for "reenchanting
everyday life" as an antidote to life's ills,
including cancer.......my "moms"---their respective
battles with Parkinson's disease and
emphysema.........my tutorial about how to get your
congressperson to do something, including on behalf
of the battle against cancer.
I hope that somewhere in there I have provoked a
thought or a moment of enjoyment or sadness or
anger..........It's been a pleasure to "pinch hit"
for Peter. I thank him for the opportunity and all
of you for your support. I'd be pleased and honored
to meet any of you who are among Peter and Katy's
fan club and invite your comments or a visit if
you're in the neighborhood of USC where I teach. You
can reach me at
wglass@usc.edu or by phone during the day at
(213) 821-3089. Happy trails and blue skies to all
of you.
