August 23,
2006 - Day 1 - Week 21 - Pinch Hitter
I do not know in the world of
blogs, internet sites, and personal diaries if it is
appropriate or kosher to have a pinch hitter, but as
a pitcher playing class A Ball on Cape Cod in the
early 60’s I know the value of a pinch hitter. When
Carson went on vacation his replacements, though
with a different style and focus, were chosen
because of their competence. The Kreitler Compact
would like to introduce my pinch hitter while I am
on vacation.
I have asked Wayne Glass
PhD. Professor at Pepperdine and USC to fill in for
me while I am gone. Why Dr. Glass? Wayne is
one of the most thoughtful, articulate, intelligent
people I know who has been experiencing the ups and
downs of cancer with his brother who lives in New
Mexico. Formerly chief of Staff for a United States
Senator, Wayne brings a sensitivity to all aspects
of his life that is refreshing. He cares about his
students, his friends and family, and especially his
brother in a loving and exemplary manner.
Wayne’s insightful commentary
about life has touched me personally on several
occasions and I know that he will add to our ever
expanding understanding of cancer and its many
facets. How often his moniker will appear is up to
him, but the time between August 24-Septermeber 14
is a three week allocation of time that I may invade
rarely.
If we are going to beat this
disease a concerted cooperative effort will be
required. Many of you have a story to tell that
will benefit others. The Kreitler Compact is
designed to glean the truth from as many sources as
possible and to provide all of us with hope, a hope
that is armed with knowledge, and emboldened by
wisdom.
Thanks Wayne for sharing your
wisdom with all of us.
