- Day 3 - Week 17 - Newsletters To
Inform
I am a fond of concise,
succinct, and well written newsletters. In a few
folded pages, preferably printed on post consumer
recycled paper, one can get a lot of information
quickly. Admittedly preferential reading time is
devoted to newsletters addressing environmental
concerns, I have been recently drawn to four medical
journals/newsletters to educate myself about cancer.
The first of the four came from
my mother in law, Nancy Bates. She had originally
introduced Katy and me to the Wellness Letter from
the University of California at Berkeley a couple of
years ago, but she has now sent us a well valued and
much read subscription. You can find this at
www.wellnessletter.com. In volume 22, Issue 10
alone there is enough information to begin and end
anyone’s day of reading. Just to tease, listen to
the Headlines of 4 separate articles: A Cancer
Vaccine – It’s Real, Weighing in on Low Carb
Diets, Give Yourself a Berry Boost, and Too Darn
Hot (the inside scoop on how to barbecue
without compromising one’s health at the same time).
Not to offend the Southern
California inhabitants I mention UCLA’s Vital Signs,
A Resource for Your Health, as another important
asset in our ever expanding cancer knowledge
library. In the Spring Issue 2006 there are
articles like Drugs Target Colon Cancer Tumor
Growth, New Drugs Studied For Childhood Cancer
and Thyroid Cancer on the Rise but Most Types
Very Curable.
The next two suggestions span
the spectrum from traditional to alternative
methodologies for wellness. The periodical CURE –
Cancer Updates, Research and Education is very
comprehensive and offers a multitude of articles on
a variety of subjects. In the Spring 2006 issue
alone we can learn about: New Directions After
Cancer, A Daughter’s Care Giving Experience,
Treatment for Pancreatic Cancer, Alternative Hormone
Therapy, What’s Next for Herceptin – Breast Cancer
Drug Learns New Trick and Medicare Mayhem – How ill
New Drug Plan Affect Cancer Patients. Check out
www.curetoday.com for subscription information.
The fourth is a newsletter
called Mother to Mother – An Alternative Newsletter
for the Entire Family on Health and Environmental
Issues. The issue I have is 10 years old but the
newsletter is now on line. The articles in this
issue reflect alternative thinking, many of which
were ahead of their time in 1996. One of the lead
articles is titled: Strawberries, Best to Buy
Organic.
There are probably dozens more
available both on-line and through snail mail, but
remaining pro-active via the wisdom of others is
essential in reversing the trends.
