April 10, 2006 - Day 6 - ½ Day of
Work ¼ Day of Productivity
It felt good to go to the office. I like my office.
It is a bit cluttered with stuff; not messy, just
wall to wall pictures and memorabilia all over the
place. It has been said that the person who is truly
content can’t wait to go to work in the morning and
can’t wait to come home at night. I have been lucky
as I have fit in that category for years.
Work is a good antidote when faced with the anxiety
that surrounds cancer. It is not the idea of keeping
busy to take one’s mind of the issue, but rather
being productive to the benefit of others or
society. Volunteering at a local soup kitchen or
serving the GDP as a CEO of a corporation can be an
effective aid in combating the illness. In other
words, work in any form may be of value in the
healing process.
For me it is a daily focus on the natural world I
love. Reading, researching, and then working to make
a television show interview informative and
entertaining is what I do at work. Today I typed up
questions for our guests who we film in two weeks.
Our first guest, Dr. Dale Kiefer, studies pollution
in the world and just returned from the Baltic Sea.
There is an eco system connection here. The health
of the world’s oceans directly impact the health of
those creatures who live in it, swim in it, or work
near it. Pollution is making whales, dolphins, and
fish sick all over the world. Pollution is making
many in the human family ill as well. The external
eco systems are in jeopardy, as is my eco system
today. Making the connection is necessary to our
long term health.
I spent time on the internet. I guess that is as
common today as eating and brushing one’s teeth.
However, for me and my family it has changed from
being an entertainment freeway to an information
highway as it was designed to be by many. I
discovered a Cancer Prevention Site run by Dr.
Samuel Epstein, who I coincidentally met at the
Bioneers Conference about 5 years ago. Might give
him a call!
By two o’clock in the afternoon I was ready for a
nap which I secured at 4:30. Aah the refreshment
that comes from a catnap of which I may take many
and no one will critique, at least for the next
eight months.
No doctors today. I like my doctors, but it was nice
to have a day when I just thought about my doctors.
All of this reminds me of how important preventative
medicine and behavior really is as we take charge of
our own health.
