April 9, 2006 - Day 5 - Sunday – A
Day of Rest and Reflection
The wise person, it has been
told through the ages, continually strives to create
a balanced life. Anyone with an illness is told to
get their rest, drink lots of fluids, and avoid
stress. Healing is possible under the most
trying of situations when a good balance between
rest, healthy diet, medical attention, exercise, and
the good wishes of others comes into play. I will
seek all of the above in balance. Sunday is a good
day to reflect upon all of this.
I thought it might be fun to
hear what greeting card companies offer each of us
when we go looking for a card to send to someone
challenged by an illness, tragedy or death. Here is
a selection of one’s I have received this week.
- “Yes, you can do it!”
- “I am sure I need scarcely
tell you that I am very proud and happy….”
- “Wishing you Peace to
bring you comfort, Courage to face the days
ahead, and Loving Memories to hold forever in
your heart.”
- ‘Get well soon – Very
Soon”
- “Every truly great
accomplishment is at first impossible”
- “When life throws you a
curve ball, SWING!”
Each is more than just a few
words, and together they can empower and remind me
of the joy of affirming words. Sometimes you or I
may send a card to someone, or a letter, email, or
note and we wonder if it has any impact at all. The
chances are very good that the impression may be
long lasting, especially in our era of being
over-whelmed by information.
I save cards and have many
cards that have been sent to me for a variety of
reasons through the years. As Perry Como used to
remark at the end of his show, “Keep the cards and
letters coming folks.” Granted this reference dates
me, but the sentiment holds up well. Thank you for
all your good thoughts through both the written and
spoken word. This is the sunshine of my Sunday
today.
